Family Retreat at Malabe
Located close to the paddy fields and fringed by distant woodland in Malabe, this is a second home for a Buddhist philosopher and his family. The philosopher spent most of his time in a Colombo, city centre home, desired a tranquil space that would enable him to live in proximity to nature. The entire house is passively ventilated, with serene courtyards, pond, green roofs, green walls and large canopy trees which ensure cool microclimate within this house and a veranda like living and working environments that provide the family a sense of leisure, and an environment for him to work on his book on philosophy. This is a renovation of a nondescript 70's building which had limited views no connection to the surrounding environment.
